This year was kind of important for me. I wonder if there is a year in out life which is unimportant... However, I wish I do a list evaluating the achieved and the impressions... but this is little scary and I am not sure if ti will bring me peace. Instead I will make a list of the books I finished this year, or at least I will try to summarise the most important out of the:
* History of the Bulgarian People 4th book 1944-2007 by Stefan Tsanev - a very dark and strong, heavy, brutal, realistic story of the darkest ages of my people. Unfortunately it s our history, and we have to live the consequences.
* Idiot by Dostoyevski - Mishkin remains in my heart with his endless goodness and as an example of why and how the people are. Always grateful for the emotions this author triggers in me
* Sidhtartha by Herman Hesse - the first and only book I have finished by Hesse, no matter how hard I have tried. He is famous for that that the words floow is difficult. But here, it left a very sharp trace in my heart about wisdom and the definition of it
* The Road by Cormac Maccarthy - devastating story of the end of the world, but full of beginnings: the beginning of love and beginning of humanity. Plan to read the book in original. I sense I lost a lot in the translation
* Angels' thongs by Dmitri Dinev - the author is a bulgarian emigrant in Austria, the book is written in German and then translated in bulgarian. It tells the story of two families with different backgrounds starting from pre- WW2 times and ending in nowadays. Very poetic and strong but little disappointing ending.
* Unique Item, a book with one hundred endings by Milorad Pavic - as ususally little crazy, little dreamy, little naive but still very sharp trace in my heart about life's meaning of a dream
* No Country for Old Man by Cormac Maccarthy - still very surprised how I am able to enjoy such dark, bloody, brutal and cruel words and story. Although having the pictures from the film, I am full of satisfaction and no regret about the book
* The Master and Margaret by Bulgakov - the first and only book I have read twice and still stunning, lovely, wonderful. Nothing else to add. Book in my top 3 list of all times
* The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hide by Setevenson - crazy, no?
* Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut - planning to finish the year with this book, currently on page 48
I have the feeling I am missing an important piece in this list but I leave it as it is
